Take Out
2018
plexiglass, wood, EL wire, acrylic paint

Not quite a neon sign and not quite a Chinese take out box, this three dimensional-two dimensional box exists in two different states. Unplugged and in the light, the box plays with a sense of depth and transparency, shadows of the snake delicately casted on the wood frame, this image and the structure of the snake itself changes depending on where you stand in relation to the piece. Truly alive with the lights off and the wires on, this sculpture becomes a simplified and amplified version of itself. Only the continuous outline of the box and highlights of the snake that lives within it are visible, now as bright blue-ish white and red faux-neon lights that can be stagnant or blinking. I have always been fond of the way the world and the people who inhabit it change at night, and I think this piece may encompass that venomous bite of difference.
