To Grasp
Steel, Copper, Aluminum, Carbon Fiber, Bungee Cords, Wood
2011

This is and interactive mechanical hand attached to an arm and supported by bungee cords. As the viewer moves the hand up or down, the fingers will open and close.
The fingers function with the combination of steel springs and carbon fiber strips which allow the fingers to return to their original position. The had itself is constructed from conduit steel piping, copper piping, and aluminum.
As for the image of a very large metal hand and the banana over its shadow, its really up to the viewer what the story is.

Writing

2011

10" x 10" x 14"

wood, paper, and pencil eraser

This work examines the relationship between the pencil and paper. As writing is an expansive process, I wanted to have the pencil turn in to expanding roots as it touches the paper. Also we often take for granted that pencils and papers come from trees so the roots are a way of revealing and appreciating this origin.

"Everything is contained within." by Matthew Amey

The mind processes everything; our experiences, our thoughts, our views. Site, sound, smell, taste, touch are all chemical impulses that travel to the brain for processing. The skull protects the mind and in our mind is where the concept of reality lives!

So the skull is where our 'Everything' is contained.

Wood, steel and metallic paint. Approx. 5' 6" tall; free standing sculpture.
