A Ripple Of  Time
2015
Wood, Paper
68" x 89" x 12"

My work is about TIME. Memory is the most significant thing to people. When we first time come to this world then we realize that we will eventually leave this world. However, the process of life is more meaningful than the result of life. When I thought about my time. Each wood strip expresses each process in my life time. And the white paper that represents "the window" shows my memory during the process of my TIME.
It likes a waterdrop (Me) falls into a shining river (Time),
creating ripples and corrugates.

Deconstructed Wave
10/5/15
Watercolor paper, wood frame, wire, gesso, sawdust, paint
36" x 27.5 " x 12.5"

We've all seen framed pictures on walls. Usually the image is flat, and placed behind the frame. The rules of framing a picture have been so ingrained in our minds that we see the frame as the outer border, which must never be crossed. This piece tries to deconstruct the idea of the traditional framed image and push past the limits of the frame, by having the subject spring out in undulating geometric forms.

Steel, Chain
8ft x 3ft x 2ft

Working with wood and furniture so much last year made me want to switch back to steel for a change. I enjoy the rigid, harsh look of the material and its ability to give the piece a grim disposition. I am currently exploring the forms of ladders, the meanings behind them and the different ways to alter those meanings. This piece was meant to take that form and relate it to the relationships we create with the people around us.

Canyons
10/5/15
Handout paper, double sided tape, wood, paint
12" x 30.5" x 20.5"

Paper was a material I've worked with before but I never was able to put it into a form I was happy with. My past paper work as felt rigid, so I explored more organic forms with this project. I used the idea of a topographic map and focused on creating depth by stacking each piece on top of another. I created downward pits into the paper to push and pull the forms, creating my own map, my own little world focused on form and color.

Just a Few Minutes
2015
Steel, resin, grate, textiles, medical tubing, video projection
Approximately 10' x 10' x 10'

An effort to understand how severely disabled individuals interpret their surroundings.  While reading to children in a pediatric nursing facility, I often wonder what it would be like to see what they see and understand what they understand.   I recognize each child's individual personality but I cannot be certain of their train of thought or perception, whether it is clear or distorted.

Coffees in Cosmos

wood and metal
4'x6'x5'x3'

The idea for this piece is to be forced to sit and watch
from the outside or become a part of the scene. Simple shapes and objects
become overheard conversations of space, creation, education...

Sitting with Demons
2015
Unfired clay, found objects, plexiglass, wood, water
50" x 42" x 42"

Inner peace cannot be found by quieting our insecurities and ignoring our faults, but rather in learning to sit with those demons and love without judgement.

Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis
Fast Mache, Wire
1.5" x 2"
A bone that has undergone the process of disintegration from osteoporosis has a very organic, intriguing shape to it. The crevices that are hollowed out by this calcium deficiency are very limiting and beautiful at the same time. I wanted to display something on the inside and bring it to light.

Do Little
sheet plastic, twine, masking tape, small air pump
20ft x 8ft x 5ft

Often, we forget about the importance of reflecting on our past. A light-hearted attitude towards life tends to fade away along with memories from childhood.  I created this piece in attempt to reach back into the past to try to find and emulate a younger version of myself.  I am trying to make sure that I do not lose my sense of curiosity and adventure as I grow into adulthood.  As a child, I had always dreamed to make my own giant snail like the one created in the 1967 version of Dr. Dolittle, so I had decided to listen to my younger self's intuitions while making my giant snail.

Domestication
Spring 2015
cardboard, braided wire
30" x 18" x 24"

Dogs were the first animal to be domesticated and have since been bred and optimized by humans in ways that sacrifice their health. Cardboard and braided wire were used to capture the look of an abandoned mangy dog.

Water Chair (Sol-itude)
Spring 2015
wood, steel, water, solar powered water pump, plastic tube, magnets, plastic sheet, nature
8ft x 3ft x 7ft

I find the sound of running water to be very relaxing and this chair is a reflection of that. The water runs with the help of a solar powered pump which reinforces the use of the chair as a place to soak up the sun and increases the connection to the natural world. The shape of the steel and the placement of the magnets help amplify the sound.

Direction
Spring 2015
wood, glue
24" x 18" x 2"

This piece was a continuation of my work with cutting veneers of wood. In this piece I played with shaping the slices without breaking them. In order to highlight their width, I made the arrows "float". The arrow was selected as a cohesive shape that could be varied and could create a sense of confusion.

Vortex
Spring 2015
steel, yarn, spraypaint
33" x 12"

Displayed at eye level, this piece invites you to stare directly down into it and become a part of the optical illusion. With so many angles and geometric shapes leading you in and around, this whimsical shape allows you to follow every one of those lines and get lost inside of it.

The way the hand becomes disassociated with someone when turned into a bitmap image associates to how someone is not them self when part of them is blocked out or missing.  These prints are meant to block out parts of the viewer when they interact in the space with the prints, causing them to lose a part of their identity, although for a short moment.

Yin and Yang
2015

Wire, foam, sculpey, acrylic paint, faux fur

These cats are created in the Japanese style of masked creatures. These masked creatures are said to be mythical beings of great importance and power. These two characters in particular are the twins and are particularly mischievous when left to their own devices. In particular these two cats also represent the idea of yin and yang, the idea of choice. There is no correct path so which one you choose is up to you.

  Nature Guardians

2015

Sod, Epoxy, Sculpey, Wire, Burlap, Found Object

Collab with Matthew Cristello

These are guardians created from nature in its most pure form. they are meant to be fantastical creatures that have adopted the visage of nature itself to camouflage and protect their respective areas. their statement is; Listen intently, daywalker, to the voices of the wind. Whistling through the spindly limbs of shady trees, murmuring across the rippling water’s edge, and racing across the blustery valley, these guardians keep watchful vigil over the footpaths you tread
