Christine Tate

House Jewelry/Solar System
Steel, aluminum, found objects, mixed media
Modular, dimensions variable; here 8'

This is phase two of a project I began last year, inspired by my first metal creation—aluminum wire and silver-tone chain earrings, a gift I made for my mother when I was in elementary school—and combines my interest in designing jewelry with my love of welding. This year, I tried to include as many different elements as possible without losing the unity of the piece. I added copper and found objects, including push rods, floats, drain covers, candlesticks, a trivet, a plumb bob, beads, nails, part of a wok, and even candy.

"Work comes from work," as Richard Serra says; here, each star, planet, and satellite suggests another.
