Metallic Fungus
2018
Cast aluminum and
ceramics
The installation Metallic
Fungus plays on the idea of new forms of life gaining consciousness.
The aluminum fungus grows out of a living tree blurring the line between what
is living and dead and what materials we would commonly associate with being
alive. The work displays the beginnings of an aluminum based life slowly
creeping undetected out of familiar carbon based tree. It remains unclear if
there is a mutualistic or parasitic relationship between the two.
