Illusions of Art

4’ X 4’3”

Steel

Art is the illusion of creating an image that defy logic, a wonderful way of telling incredible lies. The Illusions of Art is my lie that defies logic visually. The creation of gravity defying sensation of a geometric object with one end held up in the air that provides the sense of illusion that the one end is floating.  The texture of the steel also gives the illusion that the piece is made of marble when seen from an specific angle.

ALL IS NOT LOST

24 x 18 x 48

sandblasted steel, wood base, spray paint

2018

The structure operates within the confines of a standard looking frame, however it has the mobility to move through the spaces within. The inscription, which reads ALL IS NOT LOST, is broken up one word at a time on each side of the wooden column therefore encouraging the viewer to walk fully around the structure. There is a sense of hopelessness within contrasted with a stark sense of hope and the cyclical nature of life.
